The application for permanent residence for citizens of third countries
The application for permanent residence permit can be submitted by foreigners after 5 years of continuous residence in the Czech Republic. This application may be filed by a foreigner who at the time of fulfillment of the conditions is residing outside the territory of the Czech Republic. If the validity of a residence permit in the Czech Republic expires while the foreigner is not in the Czech Republic, the application must be filed within six months from the expiry of the permit. Applications must be submitted in this case to the embassy of the Czech Republic.
The application for permanent residence for foreigners is submitted to the Ministry of the Interior office by place of residence in the Czech Republic. This application must be delivered in person.
For submitting an application you must have the following documents:
- Passport
- A document confirming compliance with the conditions of 5 years continuous stay in the Czech Republic
- Two photos
- Proof of accommodation
- Proof of sufficient funds to stay
- Proof of Czech language exam
- At the request of proof of an extract from the Criminal Records
The above documents with the application for permanent residence must not be older than 180 days. Exceptions are papers like passport, birth certificate, proof of the required knowledge of the Czech language and photos of foreigners which must correspond to their real form.
In the event that the administrative authority may require Criminal Record, you need to put forward this document. The criminal record check must be issued by a State where the applicant currently holds citizenship and then by states in which the applicant resided continuously for a period exceeding six months in the last 3 years. Criminal records may be replaced by a statutory declaration, if the state does not issue such a document. This obligation to prove criminal records does not apply to an alien younger than 15 years.
